If you are outside and forgot to put leave in conditioner with sunscreen in your hair, you can put regular sunscreen in your hair, but make sure you rinse it out with a deep cleansing shampoo when you get home.

Avoid taking hot showers or washing your hair in hot water. Use warm or cool water instead; the heat can dry out and/or damage your hair and skin.

Staying hydrated is important for healthy hair as well as your overall health so make sure that you are taking enough water. .

Use a conditioner on your hair daily.

Try using a dry shampoo if you need to wash out your hair. One dry shampoo you can use is baby powder, simply sprinkle some onto your hair and use a comb to comb it off.

Use a moisturising shampoo that is gentler than your regular shampoo for the summer.

Before going into the pool/ocean wet your hair; this will decrease the absorption of chlorinated/salt water into your hair.

Use a clarifying shampoo after swimming to wash out the chlorine/salt and any residues that may be in your hair. Chlorine will severely dry out your hair if it is not washed out.

Here are some hair care tips for women :

  • Our hair grows about 1/4 to 1/2 inch every month, it should atleast have a haircut every five to six weeks to avoid split ends. Split ends comes from the Greek root “tricho” meaning hair and “ptilosis” meaning “falling out of the eyelashes”.
  • A medium length haircut will give width to  tall women while small-thin women can have various hair except for a long hair that will highlight  the height.
  • Use wide-toothed comb after shampooing your hair when it is still wet to separate the tangles.  According to the study conducted  by  Jean-Baptiste Masson,  from the Laboratory for Optics and Biosciences of the Ecole Polytechnique in France, curley hair gets less tangled than straight hair.   Avoid using metal combs on your hair which can cause hair tear. Do not over comb your hair, if you have a dry hair it will lose its  natural oils while it over-activates the oil glands for oily hair.
  • Regular hair conditioning helps the hair to be smooth and healthy.
  • Invest in a good shampoo and use a product according to your type of hair. When shampooing, use your fingertips to scrub your scalp and make sure your rinse your hair thoroughly especially for oil hair.
  • Beer and milkless tea are  excellent hair rinse to give body to hair.
  • Give your head and scalp a massage for relaxation, it promotes blood circulation.
  • One of the common scalp  problem is dandruff which is frequently caused by an overly oily scalp.  Treat dandruff  immediately so as not to build up flakes that causes itching.  Be careful to excessive scratching, it can wound the scalp and be prone to infection.  Use a nonmedicated mild shampoo to control the problem with an equal amount of distilled water to control the oil without aggravating the scalp.  If the problem persist, use a dandruff shampoo with selenium sulfide or zinc pyrithione.
  • Eat a well-balanced diet  with foods for a healthier hair such as lots of protein, fresh fruits, salmon, dark green vegetables, beans, nuts, whole grains, oyster, low-fat dairy products and carrots. The nutrition coming from food will generate a healthier cells that the body needs including our hair.                                                                                                                                                        (
    • Avocado hair masks are great for dry hair, but can also be used to keep your hair from becoming dry. Avocado is high in fat and protein, thus making it nourishing while taking care of frizz. To use this food on your hair, take half of an avocado that has been peeled, an egg, two tablespoons of olive oil, castor oil and wheat germ. Smash all of the ingredients together in a bowl, and then massage the mixture onto your dry hair, working your way from the ends to the roots. Once you’ve covered all of your hair, use a shower cap or plastic bag to cover the strands for 20-30 minutes. Try putting a warm towel around your covered head until the time is up; it will boost the condoning process.
    • Next, rinse the mixture completely out of your hair, and then shampoo as normal. Dry hair should get this treatment once a week until back to normal, and normal-to-oily hair that is being treated as a precautionary treatment only needs this process twice a month.
    • After showering, your hair is at its weakest point, and will be vulnerable to breaking, falling out and/or split ends. To keep your hair from breaking, splitting or falling out, don’t rub a towel on your hair; instead gently squeeze your strands with your towel to remove as much moisture as you can.
    •  It is best to wait for your hair to dry before sleeping since this can cause hair to fall out. And to reduce the chances of hair falling out while sleeping, use silk pillowcases on your pillow, or wrap your hair in a silk scarf. Silk is the best fabric for preventing night time hair loss.
    •  For hair that is lacking volume, bounce and shine, massage an egg and mayonnaise mixture onto your hair, working from the scalp to the ends. Leave the mixture on for 15-20 minutes with a shower cap or plastic bag covering your strands, then rinse, shampoo and condition as normal. Repeat once a week for optimal results.
    • Soaking your hair in whole milk will also bring back the shine to your hair. This process takes longer than the method in Tip #10, but it also sounds more appealing to most people. Massage your scalp with whole milk and work your way down to the ends. Leave the milk on your strands for no less than and hour, and then rinse without shampooing or conditioning. On the following day, shampoo and condition as normal, and get ready to notice the difference the milk made. You will need to repeat this process once or twice a week for glossy locks.
    • Your skin isn’t the only target the sun has to destroy. When you’re outdoors, your hair is also exposed to the sun, and the sun drains the life out of hair – taking its moisture, shine and volume down to zero. In order to avoid this unpleasantness, use hats, scarves, and umbrellas as a shield against the sun’s harmful rays. If you feel daring, try using the SPF sunblock used on skin in your hair; use a small amount to rub throughout your strands. You might also want to try putting your hair in a bun or braid when you know you’ll be in the sun for extended amounts of time.                                                                         (
    • Use a conditioner after shampooing; it’ll moisturize your hair, give it extra protection, add shine, reduce static, and makes it easier to untangle. If you have finer hair use a leave in conditioner; it’ll hydrate and protect your hair. A leave in conditioner on your hair is the equivalent of moisturizer on your face. When conditioning your hair, try to spread conditioner evenly through out the length and ends of your hair and leave it in for a couple of minutes before rinsing out your hair.Put the conditioner in at about an inch away from the scalp, the roots of your hair contain the most oils and usually don’t need the extra conditioning.

Be gentle when shampooing and conditioning. Don’t use excessive force rubbing your hair, remember hair is most vulnerable when wet.
